We paddled this stretch of river in 2002 and 2005, and its time to revisit this beautiful, undeveloped area again. Meet at 9am in the Price Chopper parking lot (near Exit 1, I-91, in Brattleboro). Well pool cars and boats before leaving a few cars at the take-out, and launch below the Vernon Dam, at the Governor Hunt Picnic area, off Rte. 142, in Vernon. Boaters coming from the south are welcome to meet us at the picnic area put-in, about 11am. This will be an easy 9-mile, downriver trip, stopping to explore Stubbin and Upper Islands, a beautiful waterfall, island campsites and the confluence of the Ashuelot River. Our take-out will be at the Pauchaug Brook Wildlife Management Area in Northfield.

ACA White Water Canoeing Instructor Certification

For the paddler who has taken the Level 3 - Moving Water Canoe Course and wishes to apply those skills to white water rivers up to and including Class II. Participants learn to do tighter eddy turns, stronger ferries and go into more depth on river reading and skills, rescues, in a whitewater environment. The participants will more than likely be paddling WW canoes with thigh straps and the focus will be on "play" or "working" the river versus just going from point A to point B. There is a heavy focus safety and rescue and well as doing much more technical and tighter turns and greater precision of maneuvers and strokes. Instructor Mark Moore. Canoes, PFDs, paddles and safety equipment provided. Fee: $245 includes meals & lodging; day student rates available.

Race for Grace
(Jackson Gore Village at Okemo, Ludlow, VT)
The Race for Grace is a multi event 5K run/walk and a challenging 5.8 mile uphill bike climb on Okemo Mountain Road. Competitors can participate in one or both events. All events are based out of Jackson Gore Village at Okemo.
This fundraiser will raise community awareness and support research in finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis (CF). CF is the number one genetic killer of children and young adults. In the five years the event has been held it has raised $45,000 for the CF Foundation.
Cookout and awards will be held after the Bike Race at the Ice House and are included in Bike Race registration.
Awards and Prizes for winners in both events. Combined event male/female overall winners also recognized. T-shirts will be given to all participants.

Three beautiful river valley rides will help keep the Windham County Reads Bookmobile on the road. Choose the 13 mile family ride to the covered bridge swimming hole, the 32 mile West River ride with a loop through Brookline, or the 60 mile rivers, hills and valleys route through nine towns.
The entry fee is $25 for adults and $5 for youth. Four rest stops and a sag wagon provide support for cyclists and there are great perks for all. Those who choose to raise an additional $50 in donations are entitled to a free leg massage and are eligible for several prizes.
