Every Saturday at 10:30am and 1:30pm, two-hour snowshoe tours led by an experienced naturalist.
Fit 2 Excel is moving their functional strength and conditioning boot camp indoors for the season. Join us at the Athletic Club of Vermont in Essex Junction for a great full body workout. These one hour sessions are designed to inmprove your strength and fitness through whole body exercises using weights and other methods. Each class will include strength training circuits, core work and cardio.

Learn how to wear, walk and climb in crampons, use an ice tool in a variety of ways, belay, and of course climb on ice! The day will begin by top-roping on low-angle ice and will move into steeper terrain. Learn the basic techniques to make it victoriously to the top.

It's time to dust off the shred sticks and throw down some early season tricks. This is the first of three Gravity Control events; come check out what Smuggs has in store! $25 entry fee gets you in to compete for cash and prizes! Our two week Collegiate Snowfest kicks off with the Collegiate Winter Games. Think your college has what it takes to be the best?
Telemark Clinic for beginners at Stowe Mountain Resort with Wendy Bridgewater from the North American Telemark Organization from
9:30-11:30 am.
at Stowe Mountain Resort from 12:30-4 pm. Enjoy an intermediate lesson and backcountry tour in the quiet places near the Bruce Trail on Mt. Mansfield. Improve your Telemark turn and touring skills, increase your confidence on variable terrain and practice waxing and skinning techniques for backcountry touring.
Your choice: $99 Clinic and lift ticket or $129 for the clinic, ticket and equipment
The series runs every Tuesday (except February 16) for eight weeks starting January 5 through March 2. Skiers of all abilities challenge themselves on a 5km course with prizes awarded in age categories and through a raffle. Awards party on March 13.

Women's Alpine Adventures - Three-Day Program for all ability levels. This program is designed exclusively for women and led by some of the best female ski and snowboard coaches in the business. Their goal is to take skiing and snowboarding women to the next level in any snow conditions and on any terrain.
An afternoon celebration of snowshoeing and cross country skiing free for those new to both sport. Smugglers' Nordic Ski and Snowshoe Adventure Center will provide free rentals and offer short instructional sessions from 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm for first time snowshoers and cross country skiers. Open to alpine skiers, telemark skiers & snowboarders. This one-day course teaches you the fundamentals of backcountry skiing. Learn the art of skinning and proper track setting, descent selection and land navigation, and lay the groundwork for establishing a strong backcountry decision-making framework. This course will give you the tools to feed the need to and avoid the resort crowds and $$ lift tickets.
A series of pre-registered workshops in the morning and afternoon.

Steez Magazine presents a big air competition at The Zone. Registration begins at 9:00 am at the Base Lodge; the event kicks off at 11:00 am. $25 entry fee.
The second event of a four rail jam series open to both skiers and snowboarders. Competitors will earn points throughout the series in hopes of walking away with the Grand Prize and bragging rights. So come show off your stuff, earn points, and grab some sweet prizes. Videographers can square off for each event to see who can put together the best 2 minute video.

Blues concert to benefit Ski for Heat, a fundraiser that provides heating fuel assistance to families in southern Vermont. Bob Stannard & Friends will be providing a hot night of cool blues. Bob has performed with B.B. King, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and Maria Muldaur (to name a few). A suggested donation of $20 is being asked.
EMS and Storrs Hill are hosting a Telemark ski clinic on Jan. 19th form 6:30PM to 9:30PM. For $10 you get: Telemark lessons for all ability levels, a lift ticket, and the use of telemark ski rentals.

Taught by an AIARE (American Institute for Avalanche Research & Education) Instructor. This stand alone course is a must for skiers, snowboarders, climbers & backcountry enthusiasts. The Level 1 Course provides a complete introduction to the avalanche occurrence, avalanche terrain, decision-making, and rescue.
A 10K freestyle race for adults begins at 10am; a 5k race for juniors begins at 11am. This is a non-NENSA race, and participants of all ages and abilities are invited.
Join us for a day of backcountry skiing on some of the best terrain in Vermont. Learn from expert instructors as they help you improve your telemark technique or teach you the basics of backcountry skiing with the help of video analysis. Some of the latest backcountry skis and snowshoes will be on hand for demo but participants should bring their own equipment as well.

FREE clinic for beginners to advanced skiers with discussion of basic wax techniques and a focus on basic waxing techniques and waxing for race conditions specifically for those participating in The Craftsbury Marathon on January 30 (or the sprint series Friday night). There will be a raffle for attendees. Starts at 6 pm at Onion River Sports.
The 2010 US National Cross-Country Ski Championships to be held in Craftsbury Vermont and hosted by the Craftsbury Outdoor Center is spread over the long weekend Thursday, January 28 through Saturday, January 30. The Championships will be scored using combined modified world cup points from two races.

10 km freestyle for all masters. Wave starts based on age and gender. Start 2:30 pm. This is race #1 for NM2010. Race #2 is the classic technique TD Banknorth Craftsbury Marathon on Saturday January 30, 2010. The Combined modified worldcup points will be used to name the US national Masters Team

The American Cancer Society will be having an information session
The prologue 200 meter Dash for Cash, to be held Friday night under the lights between 6 and 7 pm on the Common, will be a fun and exciting event for both participants and spectators. Timed starts for the initial qualifying round of the Dash for Cash will give skiers of all ability levels and ages a chance to match their speed with others in their class.

You’ll learn the basic Telemark stance and refine and link Telemark turns. For skiers with some experience on skis, able to ride a chair lift and get down green trails.
Improve your Telemark turn and touring skills, increase your confidence on variable terrain and practice waxing and skinning techniques for backcountry touring. Discover the joy of backcountry skiing with an expert who knows the terrain.
The Camel's Hump Challenge is a unique backcountry ski experience and a fundraiser for the Vermont Alzheimer's Association. Participants raise money through pledges, then take part in a 25 Km circumnavigation of Camel's Hump beginning and ending in Huntington, Vermont.
Learn to Telemark ski. Lessons will be given at Storrs Hill (off the Lebanon green) on February 9th form 6:30-9:30PM. For $10 you get: a lift ticket, lessons, and rentals form EMS. Industry reps from Black Diamond will be there with current gear to try.

This is a 2-day, women-only comprehensive weekend of snowkiting. Learn everything from safety and set-up to riding techniques to gear types and gear care. This is the third year of this fun and hands-on camp. It is a great opportunity to learn at your own pace in a great learning environment. No yelling, lots of encouragement and no one will underestimate what you can do.

The best free riders in the east and beyond will gather at Killington's Stash to take advantage of the natural terrain and all the creative elements the mountain has to offer. Riders will be rewarded for picking the best lines and nailing the best tricks on rock jibs, log rides, rainbow trees, giant Shreddies and jibbable buildings.
Our nine individual snowshoe races are collectively organized as a series. Each race has it's own race director and event management. Individual and team points will be awarded for each race using a very simple scoring system. And back by popular demand...any competitor who races in all nine GSSS races will earn a coveted series winter hat awarded at the GSS Championship in March.
Take the Catamount Challenge and tour or race from the Trapp Family Lodge to the Bolton Valley Nordic Center. The 17 km route is 70% backcountry and 30% on groomed trails. Participants will climb 2300 vertical ft from Nebraska Notch to the highest point on the Catamount Trail and descend 1300 ft to the Bolton Valley Nordic Center.

Over the course of four years, Margy Holden and Cathy Frank paddles the entire shoreline of Lake Champlain, a journey of over 650 miles. After a ten year hiatus the Killington Stage Race is back for 2010. This year the event includes three stages; an 11 mile individual time trial, a circuit race on an 19 mile loop and a 62 mile road race. All based in the Killington area. There will be eight fields for USA Cycling licensed racers and two citizen's events.
American Canoe Association Certificate program to become an ACA Tandem Canoe Instructor, flat and moving water, taught by ACA Instructor Trainer, Mark Moore. Canoes, PFDs, paddles, and safety equipment provided. Paddlers must demonstrate basic boat control skills, teaching ability, safety awareness, and technical knowledge to obtain certifications. Course price $355. includes meals and lodging.

Coyote Hill Classic- Short Track
This rolling hill ride (60 M/S) starts passes through Georgia and Milton before heading to St. Albans Bay for a lunch break and over to Swanton. The shorter version (40 E/M) turns around after the lunch stop. This ride has a short stretch along the shore of the Lamoille River and a longer stretch along Lake Champlain.

The Tour de Kingdom is a two day, fully supported, double century challenge, deep in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom. Shorter routes are available on each day as well. Join us for this series of destination-based bicycle rides to brunch every-other Sunday throughout the summer. These casual group rides will be at a relaxed pace to a different bakery or brunch site each ride. Enjoy breakfast with the group and then ride home together afterwards.
A 26 mile (E/M) bicycle ride circles Grand Isle via the west and east shores and includes some dirt. The 50 mile (M) option goes to the Shrine at Isle LaMotte before returning. Afterwards, meet at Helen’s camp for a picnic on the shore of the Almost Great Lake. Hot dogs will be provided, but please bring your own beverage and something to share with the group. Meeting time 8:45 a.m.
The Craftsbury Outdoor Center is excited to be celebrating National Trails Day. We're hosting a variety of activities on our trails - a running race, a nature walk, and some trailwork - so we hope there will be something for everyone. You're also welcome to come walk, run, or mountain bike our trails on your own before joining us for pizza. Schedule and details below the fold.
About a year ago, Dan Nelson of Hanover, NH and Phil Hobbie of Hartland, VT traveled cross-country from Washington State back through Vermont to the New Hampshire seacoast. Their trip was unsupported requiring the riders to be prepared for virtually any circumstance.
This is our 9th year of hosting the series. The races are sponsored by Rutland Recreation & Parks Department. Registration starts at 5:45 PM and the races start at 6:30 PM. Cost is $6 per race or $15 for the series. Participate in all three and get a free t-shirt.

This is one of the oldest point to point road races in New England. The 10K road race starts on the Proctor Green in Proctor, Vermont at 8 am on Sunday, June 13, 2010. The 5K road race starts above the Loop Street entrance on Route 3 and on the 10K course at 8 am.

The 100-200 is a one-day bicycle ride from the Canadian border to the Massachusetts state line, primarily on Rte 100, a tad over 200 miles. This double-century is decades old and is a true Vermont classic. This version requires self-support and there are no registration fees. While this is not a ride for the unprepared, it should be within the capabilities of any seasoned cyclist.

The KidSafe Island Ride is a metric century (100 km) bicycle ride through the beautiful Champlain Islands, along the shores of Lake Champlain. There is also a 30-km ride and a 10-km ride. The event benefits the KidSafe Collaborative of Chittenden County, a non-profit organization established to improve the community's response to child abuse and neglect.
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.
A fast, looping 4 mile course that begins at Colburn Park (Lebanon, NH) and follows the Northern Rail Trail through miles 1 and 2. The course then follows Riverside Dr. to the Packard Hill covered bridge and follows Bank St. Ext. through mile 3. Runners then loop back on the Rail Trail to the finish at Colburn Park.
Racevermont.com is branching out!! We are hosting our first ever Half Iron Man. The 1.2 Mile swim is a well protected two loop course in Lake Champlain at Shelburne Bay. The bike is a challenging 2.5 loop course- two real hills!! The 13.1 mile run is a relatively flat out-and-back enjoying breathtaking views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains of New York State.

We will cover the basics of gearing, shifting, braking, body position, cornering, bike handling, riding obstacles, trail riding, and bike repair/maintenance.

Help build the Cross Vermont Trail by cycling 15, 30 or 60 miles on scenic dirt roads in Central Vermont. The 29th Annual Prouty Bike Ride and Challenge Walk is a community event in Hanover, NH that provides all individuals with an opportunity to participate. The 100 mile bike route attracts 1,000 riders, many riding a "century" for the first time, taking advantage of the "SAG stops" every 10 miles and full bike support. This hillclimb will be contested on exactly the same course as the historic Mt Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb – the toughest hillclimb in the world. This new addition is in response to the overwhelming popularity of the MWARBH and this year will benefit the Mt Washington Observatory and other non-profits.
Nice riding in northwestern Vermont near Lake Carmi. Mileage options are 30 (M) and 60 (S). Both rides go through Morses Line and then Franklin where some can stop for a food break. The shorter ride returns on route 120 and 105 through Sheldon. The long ride goes up to Richford (with another potential food stop) and returns on 105 through Enosburg Falls.

The Mt. Washington Century ride on July 17 is fast becoming known as the New England’s Most Challenging Centurytm. We have mountain passes that thrill the eye and challenge the soul. For those wanting to ‘test their personal best’, the Mt. Washington Century ride is it!
One day introductory biathlon camp will be held on Saturday, July 17th for kids age 10 to 18. Day will include safety, introduction to biathlon rifles, shooting position, trigger control, range procedures, race strategies, shooting precision games, and a short, fun running biathlon race. Cycle to and from Mad River Valley farms, in conjunction with the Waitsfield Farmers Market, to raise money and awareness for the local farming community.
This route travels south through Huntington to Hinesburg Hollow. The short route is 25 miles (M) and returns to Richmond via North Road while the long one is 47 miles (M/S) and continues through North Ferrisburgh to the Lake and back through Hinesburg.

A weekly trail running race series for all abilities and ages. Every Thursday for six weeks racers can run/walk the 3.1 mile course between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. Awards for top three in each category. Prizes for competitors who complete four out of six weeks are based on a raffle at the end of series awards party.
The Green Mountain Stage Race was selected by Velonews as one of the top ten stage races in North America. This will be the 10th year for the event which welcomes racers from the US, Canada and Europe. The event has four stages starting with a prologue time trial, circuit race, a two gap road race and a criterium in downtown Burlington.
The American Lung Association in Vermont's new Bolton Valley Walk/Run is a vertical 5K to the top of Bolton Valley Resort and it's new wind turbine. Whether you run like mad or inhale the fabulous view at your own pace, don't miss this unique event! Ride back on the chair lift. Starts at 10:00. $35 registration fee and $100 fundraising minimum ($50 for youth ages 10-18).

Join the Brattleboro Section of the Green Mountain Club for its annual 200-mile bike trip which runs nearly the length of Vermont. The trip, for experienced cyclists, starts on Saturday September 11 near the Canadian border in North Strafford, N.H. and travels south on both sides of the Connecticut River to Brattleboro, Vt., near the Massachusetts border.
Presented by NGA-VT and Sponsored by Century 21 Jack Associates. This event benefits the VT National Guard Fallen Soldier Memorial at Camp Johnson. The race begins and ends at Camp Johnson. Both events (10 k & Youth Fun Run) are open to the public.

Fast becoming one of the biggest rides in the state, the fifth annual Kelly Brush Century Ride is a fully supported 100 mile ride through the scenic Champlain Valley. Riders may participate as individuals, riding either 25, 50 or 100 miles, competing to raise the most money.
Grace Cottage Hospital’s Sixth Annual Tour de Grace takes place on Saturday, September 11. This fun, mostly downhill bike rally from Stratton Mountain Resort to Grace Cottage Hospital raises money to support the hospital. Start the 19-mile ride at the Stratton Mountain Resort base lodge parking lot anytime between 8 and 10 a.m., and end at Grace Cottage Hospital, on Route 35 in Townshend.
Bicycle, hike, eat, and socialize at the VT Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition's annual outing. A choice of guided bicycle rides and hikes will be offered. Gathering time is 9:00 am. Trips depart at 9:30 am and return at 12:30 pm for a pot luck lunch followed by news of what the VBPC plans for 2011 and special remarks by Rep. Mollie Burke, (P-Brattleboro). All are welcome.
High School 5 km Cross-Country Course open to public to allow runners, coaches, and family of middle and high school athletes to participate. This is one of the most beautiful cross country courses in New England, with views of Mt. Mansfield and Camel's Hump. It is a challenging course with rolling hills through mowed meadows and short wooded sections.

Brief Description
Women's kayak trip on the Connecticut River, on flat moving water.
We can provide shorter amounts of paddling for those who want it, longer stretches of the river for those who want to paddle further.
Kayak rentals available, with paddling gear.
Accommodations if desired at hotel, B&B, or camping.
Some meals and snacks provided, others we will arrange.
The Maple Leaf Half-Marathon will begin at the Manchester Parks and Recreation Center and snake its way along backcountry roads, over to route 7 and then back to the Recreation Center for the finish. The half-marathon course is open for 3.5 hours and is walker-friendly. At the same time, there will be a 5-Kilometer run/walk on a separate course.
The Old Stone House Museum in Brownington, Vermont, is sponsoring their second Fall Foliage Run, which is a Half Marathon Run, 12 Mile Bike, and 5k Run & Walk.
It begins at the Old Stone House Museum and circles around the scenic and historic roads of Brownington.
Registration before 9/1/10 is $15. Registration after 9/1/10 is $20. Cost includes a cotton T-shirt.
This Olympic Distance Triathlon was such a success in 2009, that we’ve decided to offer it again. The swimming portion of the competition takes place at North Beach, beginning at 8:00 a.m. The cycling course takes riders on a loop course down North Avenue and back on the beltline, so it will be flat and fast!
34th Annual Josh Triathlon is a 27 mile bike race through 5 towns, a 5 mile canoe or kayak around Stockbridge Bowl and a 6 mile run around the lake into Tanglewood in Lenox, Ma. Scenic, challenging and tons of fun and excitement as the race goes from Great Barrington to Lenox in the Berkshires.

1st Annual 5K RUN FOR THE LAKE September 12th
Three rides, all following the same route for the first 25 miles with a food stop in Bristol. The Metric Century is 62 miles (M) via Bristol and Vergennes. The full Century is 100 miles (S) traveling down to the Crown Point Bridge and returning through the Champlain Valley.
Our Rutland Recreation & Parks Department duathlon features a 5K trail running course followed by a 10K mountain bike. Racers of all ability levels are welcome. You can register as an individual or as a team. The race starts at 10:00 AM with registration beginning at 9:00 AM.

The Trek event raises funds to repair and maintain the TAM trail.

A 1.2-mile time trial up steep West Hill Road in Warren. The last race in this summer's monthly time trial series. Start time is 6:00pm. Open to all riders. Entry is free.
Bicyclists are invited to enjoy the fall foliage while supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on an October 2nd ride around Lake George. The Peak Season Century will allow riders to take in the natural beauty of Lake George during the height of fall foliage season. The scenic trail will have supported rest stops and bicycle mechanics will be on hand for any necessary maintenance.
The 15th Annual Northern New England Sled Dog Trade Fair & Seminars will be held at the Hopkinton Fair Grounds (Green Gate entrance) at 392 Kearsarge Avenue, Contoocook, New Hampshire on October 2nd and 3rd. One mile vertical climb to the summit of Stark Mountain. Begins from the base lodge at Mad River Glen in Fayston, Vermont at 10AM.
