Montpelier – The Montpelier Rotary Club and Onion River Sports will host the 4th Annual Montpelier Mile. This annual running race kicks-off Montpelier's popular Independence Day Parade with a one measured-mile road race beginning at the Chittenden Bank Pocket Park, heading east toward the intersection of State and Main Streets, then turning north on Main Street, going around the Rotary and returning to the start. At the quarter mile mark, roughly the corner of State and Main Streets, the first man and woman to the mark win the Community National Bank “Dash for Cash,” cash prize. The race begins prior to the parade at 6 pm, sharp.
The Montpelier Mile raises funds for the many charitable organizations and projects of the Montpelier Rotary Club and is supported by volunteers from the Montpelier Rotary Club. The race is sponsored by local Montpelier businesses Onion River Sports, Silver Lake Wealth Management, Heney Realty, and Community National Bank.
The current course records were established in the 2007 Montpelier Mile. The men's record is held by Nathan Brigham at 4:22 minutes and the women's record is held by Heidi Westerling at 5:00 minutes.
Pre-registration (thru June 27 online http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1720623&assetId=0C... or in person at Onion River Sports) fee is $10.00 for adults; regular registration fees are $15 for adults, $10 for adults accompanying children, and $5.00 for children under 12. or in person at Onion River Sports, 20 Langdon Street, Montpelier. Day of race registration will be held at the Chittenden Bank pocket park and will be open from 4 pm until 5:30 pm.
